European association FIDEN holds annual conference

European professional cleaning association FIDEN held its annual conference in Naples, Italy. Attended by participants from Germany, Italy, Malta, Austria, Romania, Switzerland and Spain, the theme for the meet was Creating Added Value - For and Through Industrial Cleaning.

Cleaning systems provider Unger - which has its headquarters in the USA - has appointed Torsten Deutzmann as managing director of its European division.
Based in Germany, Deutzmann - who joined the company in 1995 as a marketing assistant - has performed a variety of roles, most recently general manager.

Robot cleaner a 'game changer' for hospital infection epidemic

A mobile robotic device said to combat germs with blasts of UV light has been developed for use in hospitals.
The Xenex, devised by US epidemiologists, is claimed to disinfect a hospital room in five to 10 minutes. It is used as a follow-up to cleaning teams and focuses on high-touch surfaces such as tray tables, telephones and bedrails.
