Shopkeeper fights off armed gang with mop

A UK shopkeeper has been captured on CCTV fending off a machete-wielding raider and accomplices with his mop.

Dinesh Gorania beat off the masked man as he tried to force his way into the family-run convenience store.

Dinesh was mopping up just inside the doorway of the store when three masked men pulled up in a car. One of the robbers, armed with a two-foot machete, burst into the store only to be struck by Dinesh's mop which forced him backwards.

The man tried twice more to get back into the shop but was repeatedly hit with the mop.

Two other masked robbers joined in the fracas, with one throwing a metal bar at Dinesh which he blocked with his forearm.

Commenting after the incident Dinesh said: "After my son said 'there are robbers coming', I got the mop and hit him, I wasn't giving them the chance to hit me first.

"He fell back straight away. He tried to get back in but I wouldn't let him."

The would-be robbers retreated to their getaway car and have not yet been caught by police.
