Glutton sweeper relies on human intelligence to sort waste

A patented sweeper that helps to facilitate recycling in city centres is one of the highlights of the Glutton stand.

The type of waste to be picked up is assessed by the human operator who then sends it to the appropriate container at the touch of a button.

"The Glutton Select doesn't use AI - it uses human intelligence," says marketing and communications manager Christine Gaertner. "It can sort waste as soon as it is picked up, sending items such as plastic bottles into one container while general waste goes into the other."

The machine has an overall capacity of 240 litres but can be split to accommodate 180 litres in the first section and 60 in the second.

"It can pick up everything from leaves to dog waste," said Gaertner. "And the fact that it is 100 per cent electric means its operation is very quiet."

Glutton plans to expand the machine's capabilities so that it can eventually pick up more than two kinds of recyclables, says Gaertner.

Also new is an all-electric ride-on sweeper with an ultra-quiet operation. This has been designed with operator comfort in mind, with a driver's seat that can accommodate operatives up to two metres in height. It even has an inclined windscreen to prevent glare and to create shade. No wonder it has been named the Glutton Zen.
