'VIP-style' restroom facility to elevate women's festival experience
14th of May 2026Access to a clean and sanitary washroom is a top priority for female festival-goers, according research commissioned by Always and Secret.
The two companies teamed up with the organisers of a major Californian music and arts festival to create a free VIP toilet for female customers.
The Refresh Room at April's Coachella event incorporated phone-charging stations, bag hooks, a perfume bar, mood lighting and music. It also offered air-conditioning, running water and mirrors. And complimentary deodorant and period products were made available to festival-goers.
A total of 56 per cent of women questioned in an Always and Secret survey said they felt worried about not having access to a clean toilet when attending a festival.
The research, which polled 2,000 female festival-goers, revealed that the washroom was an important space for them to connect with others and rebuild their confidence.
"We know that when women feel comfortable and confident they are able to fully enjoy and be present in those unforgettable festival moments," said a spokeswoman from Always and Secret. "By creating spaces where women can reset and reconnect and by prioritising comfort, cleanliness and thoughtful details, we have been able to elevate the festival experience even further."
The study also revealed that 35 per cent of women were concerned about excess sweating from being too hot at a festival, while 24 per cent were worried about body odour.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is held every year in Indio, California, and incorporates live bands and large art installations.
