Vikan in the pink8th of May 2014
A new range of cleaning products in Barbie pink is among the highlights of the Vikan stand.
The range includes brushes, handles and buckets and forms part of the company's colour-coded system designed to prevent cross-contamination.
"We already had eight colours so pink is our ninth," said brand manager Marianne Houmannn Jensen. "We are world market leaders for hygienic cleaning tools so we feel we need to have the most colours - and our customer research indicated that eight colours just weren't enough."
She said the range was aimed in particular at cleaning applications in the food industry. "Perhaps it could be used for cleaning up in areas where foods associated with allergies are being used, for example," she said.
Houmannn Jensen denied any link between the shocking pink range and the fact that cleaning is a female-dominated industry. She also failed to see why male cleaners may be less than impressed by the colour.
"You need to have colours that are distinctive, and we felt this colour was quite appealing while also being very different to the colours we already had," she said.
