Thank Your Cleaner Day puts cleaning professionals in the spotlight

Cleaning businesses, employers and building managers are being encouraged to recognise their cleaning staff today, October 14, as Thank Your Cleaner Day celebrates the contribution of professional cleaners around the world.

The annual campaign highlights the essential role cleaning professionals play in maintaining hygiene and creating safe, welcoming environments across workplaces, healthcare facilities, schools and public buildings.

Thank Your Cleaner Day was established in New Zealand in 2015 by the Building Service Contractors of New Zealand (BSCNZ), with support from Kärcher. It has since grown into an international initiative, celebrated in more than 40 countries.

The campaign encourages organisations and individuals to show appreciation for cleaning staff, whose work frequently takes place outside normal operating hours or away from public view.

Recognition can be as simple as a personal thank you, a message of appreciation or an opportunity for cleaning teams to hear directly that their contribution is valued.

For professional cleaning contractors, the day also provides an opportunity to reflect on how staff recognition fits into wider efforts to support the workforce through training, career development, fair treatment and employee wellbeing.

With recruitment and retention important issues for the sector, Thank Your Cleaner Day serves as a reminder that recognising the people who deliver cleaning services is an important part of building a valued and sustainable workforce.
