Sealed Air acquires Intellibot Robotics assets

Diversey Care parent company Sealed Air has acquired certain assets of Intellibot Robotics, a US-based privately owned company specialising in the development of commercial floor cleaning robots.
The acquisition includes certain intellectual property, the manufacturing operations in Virginia as well as sales, production and engineering staff. The business will be integrated into the Diversey Care division and its brand of TASKI floor cleaning machines.
Dr Ilham Kadri, Diversey Care president said: "This is another example of how Sealed Air is changing the game and it positions Diversey Care as the first hygiene and cleaning player to enter the industrial robotics arena.
"Our industry expertise, global reach, design and manufacturing capabilities combined with Intellibot's artificial intelligence technology will help accelerate the development of the robotic floor cleaning machines market - ultimately driving efficiencies and business value for our industry."
With the introduction of models including Hydrobot, Aerobot and Duobot Diversey Care claims to have addressed the technological issues associated with the various cleaning machine robots developed over the years by other manufacturers. For example, these models can work with any type of sensor.
For many building service companies, cost will also inevitably be a key factor in the decision whether to invest in robotic technology. Kadri said: "We are keen to promote the total cost of ownership and the overall savings in the cleaning operation that can be made through the use of robotics. And we now believe we have a realistic, feasible option to make robotics work for the industry."
Jerome Peribere, president and ceo of Sealed Air explained: "We feel this is the right time for us to introduce this type of technology. This is the future. Of course it will be an evolutionary process and we believe the most obvious markets to start with will be those with a high cost of labour, for example."
