In the UK, founder and executive chairman of Principle Cleaning Services Douglas Cooke has been recognised in the Top 100 Influential People 2026, a programme administered by Awards Intelligence.

The Top 100 Influential People programme recognises those whose leadership, innovation and impact extend beyond business results to influence positive change within their industries and communities.
Cooke founded the business in 1989 - today it employs over 3,000 people and turns over £120 million. It's the trusted cleaning partner to many of London's most iconic buildings.

In 2023 he led Principle's transition to an Employee Ownership Trust and was an early advocate for the London Living Wage. Cooke also pioneered daytime cleaning through Principle's trademarked Hybrid Cleaning Process, enabling full-time employment and transforming cleaners into visible staff members.

Beyond Principle, Cooke has played a key role in many of the industry's representative organisations. He has served for 33 years as a director of the Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA), including eight years as chairman. He has also been chair of the British Cleaning Council and UK representative on the World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC) and EFCI. In 2016 he received the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2022 the CSSA Lifetime Achievement Award.
