Hotel uses sanitation booths to make guests feel safe

Guests who stay at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf and Spa Resort in Mexico now have to enter via a sanitation booth to help keep staff and fellow customers COVID-19 safe.

Anyone arriving at the property on Mexico's south coast must part with their bags, which are sent through an external sanitation system. The guest is then required to enter a cabin resembling a glass telephone booth where their temperature is taken.

After this they are sprayed with a fine, odourless sanitising mist. The aim of the booths - which have to be used every time the guest enters the property during their stay - is to boost customer confidence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We understand how crucial it is to establish new standards of cleanliness, hygiene and social distancing," said ceo of Pueblo Bonito Resorts Alberto Coppel, "To ensure a safe environment for our guests and staff we have partnered with medical specialists and a global leader in hotel consulting. Our priority is the health and safety of our owners, guests and co-workers."

However, experts claim sanitation booths may be ineffective if a traveller already has Covid-19.

"Decontaminating surfaces is a start, and sanitation cabins can help with that," said travel health specialist and immunologist Yohann White. But if you have already contracted the virus there is nothing you can do superficially to hasten its clearance."

Infectious disease epidemiologist Dr Saskia Popescu adds: "While antimicrobial booths have become popular as a potential tool to help stop the spread of germs, facilities should focus on enforcing social distancing, mask-wearing, hand washing and the frequent disinfection of high-touch surfaces."
