First new London Underground toilets open at Morden
23rd of February 2026Transport for London has unveiled two new washrooms as part of the Mayor of London's plans to invest £15m in customer toilets on the network.
Morden is the first underground station to benefit from the new toilets. In 2024 the Mayor committed to spending £3 million each year for five years on introducing toilets at selected stations.
The money will also be used to increase the number of accessible toilets, enhance existing facilities and improve overall availability so that customers are always within 20 minutes of a toilet without having to change trains.
Accessible toilets opened last year at Clapton, Seven Sisters and White Hart Lane London Overground stations as part of the programme. Work is currently underway at Amersham underground station, where major refurbishment works will convert existing toilets into fully accessible facilities.
TFL's customer director Emma Strain said: "We know that for many people, not being able to access a toilet can be the difference between going out on the network or not, which can have a disruptive and devastating impact on their lives. The opening of these new toilets at Morden is a significant milestone in our work to increase and improve provision on our network."
There are currently toilets at 155 locations on the Transport for London network. TfL is developing a toilet best practice design guide to ensure that all new or upgraded toilets meet relevant standards, are easy to maintain and less prone to abuse.
TFL recently created a Toilet Tube Map detailing all the facilities across the network and highlighting those that are wheelchair accessible and those with baby changing provision.
