ABM renews Waterford hospital contract
24th of July 2026ABM has been re-awarded a contract to continue providing cleaning services at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) under an agreement with Ireland's Health Service Executive (HSE).
The renewed contract covers five UHW facilities, including operating theatres, intensive care units and the recently opened Haematology and Oncology Day Unit. ABM will continue to employ 265 cleaning staff across the sites.
The company says its services also support the hospital's out-of-hours clinics by helping to maintain the clean and compliant environments required to improve patient flow and reduce waiting lists.
ABM has worked with UHW since 2019, when it was appointed to improve cleaning standards across the hospital. According to the company, Ireland's Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) reported significant improvements in cleaning standards within three months of the contract commencing. ABM also established what it says was Ireland's first on-site hospital training facility for cleaning operatives.
A spokesperson for University Hospital Waterford said ABM had "consistently demonstrated a professional approach, strong expertise and clear commitment" to delivering high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, adding that the hospital looked forward to continuing the partnership.
David Ferguson, operations director for All Ireland at ABM, said the renewal reflected the team's "professionalism, specialist expertise and commitment to patient-centred service" in maintaining safe and compliant healthcare environments.
