No bacteria – that’s the pledge from NOB166

What's the catchiest name for a product designed to eliminate bacteria?

Answer: NOB166, as in "No bacteria". The company manufactures a range of products designed to protect surfaces and textiles from the growth of micro-organisms.

These are more effective than disinfectants because they offer longer-lasting protection, according to marketing and communications manager Miriam Ortega Moritalvo. "If you disinfect a surface, you can easily contaminate it again a minute later," she points out.

NOB 166 products have an active ingredient said to be released in a slow and controlled way to form a protective layer. And they are claimed to protect textiles from recontamination for seven days, making them particularly suitable for use on bed linen in hotels and hospitals.

However, the company's unique selling point Is the sustainability of its ingredient, adds Moritalvo. "It is 100 per cent recyclable and eventually turns into recoverable natural salts."

Available in a direct application spray is the company's Protect Clothes which also offers antimicrobial properties. And designed for use in the public and private sectors is D360, claimed to eliminate 99.9 per cent of bacteria, fungi and encapsulated viruses.

But now for the elephant in the room. Is Moritalvo aware that the company's name elicits sniggers from English-speaking people? "Yes, I do now," she said. "It was recently pointed out to me. I studied English at school, but I didn't learn the rude words. So we now use the name as an acronym and spell it out."

And, why 166? "Because the product was invented in June 2016," is the response.
