Touch-panels boost cleaning regimes in German hospitals

One of Germany's leading hospitals has installed a system of touch panels throughout the facility in a bid to improve cleaning and operational efficiency.

The panels, which are linked together by means of a remote management console, display cleaning schedules, hygiene requirements, floor plans and room availability. They are said to provide an optimised cleaning process capable of facilitating a faster patient intake while also enhancing patient safety.

The panels, made by Philips Professional Display Solutions, are installed at Cologne's recently-expanded Krankenhaus der Augustinerinnen hospital which accommodates more than 13,000 in-patients and 28,000 out-patients a year.

"The effective use of resources and optimal utilisation of rooms is essential for the best possible care, and the installation supports us in this," said Gunnar Schneider, managing director at Krankenhaus der Augustinerinnen.

A total of 14 of the 10 ins display panels have been rolled out across the hospital, which has a staff of 750-plus. The touch-screen displays feature an interactive on-screen floor plan that allows staff to check at a glance the status of each room.

Staff members can then update the system on whether or not a room has been cleaned and whether it is available for use. All software updates can be carried out remotely.

The installation was the work of PPDS and wizAI Solutions. PPDS business director Rainer Bloch said: "Running on Android, our displays come in 10" and 86" versions and have the flexibility to complement third-party providers. We're delighted to have been part of such a transformative project."
