Stella Artois turns vacuum cleaners into robotic bartenders

Lager manufacturer Stella Artois has performed a Christmas miracle by turning robot vacuum cleaners into automatic bartenders this year.

The Stella Artois BART - which stands for Bartending Automated Robotic Technology - comes in the form of a kit that may be attached to a robot vacuum by means of heavy-duty hook-and-loop patches.

BART comprises a tray, four drinks' holders and space for a snack bowl. It enables the unit to transport drinks and snacks around the room while simultaneously carrying out its floor-cleaning role.

"Everyone can relate to hosting a holiday party and spending more time running around or cleaning up than actually enjoying spending time with friends and family," said Stella Artois vice-president Lara Krug. "So this year Stella Artois has decided to make consumers' lives a little easier by introducing BART."

The drinks' holders can accommodate either beer bottles or broad-based glasses and the tray has strategically-placed ridges to prevent the drinks from sliding around.
The kit is on sale for US$20 and may be purchased online by customers with access to a 3D printer.

Robot vacuums have been adapted for other uses ever since they first emerged on to the market. Internet blogs and video websites show footage of automatic cleaning machines being used to give rides to small children and pets, for example.

Some people mount a speaker on top to transform their robot into a "mobile DJ".
And another internet source reveals that a robot vacuum can be turned into a mobile air monitor with the addition of an LED display and sensors that can check for volatile organic chemicals, contaminants or alcohol in the air.
