Steambeast tackles the gum problem in parks and cities

Claimed to be both floor-friendly and highly effective is the Zaugg Steambeast.

This uses moisture at low-pressures to remove chewing gum and other soiling from floors.

"The technique is unique since it loosens dirt from the floor without destroying the floor or loosening the grouting between tiles," said head of communications at Zaugg Ag Eggiwil Rolf Egli.

"Besides removing gum it can also be used on sticky drinks such as Red Bull which can be a problem in areas such as parks, car parks, and zoos. In fact we are still learning what it can clean."

On show for the first time at the event was a smaller, stripped-down version of the "Beast".

"Our story actually started with a small machine but as the technology developed we turned it into the Steambeast.," said Egli. "But then we discovered that while big is good, small is also required."

The Steambeast turns fresh water into low-pressure steam in integrated boilers. This is then applied to the surface by means of a cleaning head. Other environments where the machine can be used include airports, railway stations, local authorities, sports facilities, event halls, workshops and shopping centres.
