Online cleaning firm promises fast, seamless service

A former Apple employee and his mother have set up a cleaning business in the UK offering cleaning services to households that can be quickly booked online.

Aimed at tech-savvy professionals with busy lifestyles, Maid Up North in Newcastle is said to enable customers to select, schedule, book and pay online in 60 seconds.

"Modern lifestyles can be hectic and demanding," claims the company on its website. "Maid Up North removes the need for time-consuming phone calls and needless correspondence.

"All our cleaners have been vetted, reference checked and interviewed in person. They also come with public liability insurance and each of them will have completed a trial shift before being added to our roster."

Scott McMullan left his job with Apple to set up Maid Up North with his mum Kerry Patton. The duo launched the company this year and are already looking to expand into Carlisle, Durham, Leeds and York. They claim to be on course for a first year turnover of €385,000 and have forecast an ambitious sales target of €1.29m inside three years.

Besides offering cleaning services for properties of all sizes, the company will also offer add-ons such as ironing and window cleaning. And Maid Up North staff will also undertake specialist tasks such as fridge cleaning and the clearing out of kitchen cupboards.
