Most would rather have Facebook than a flushing toilet
29th of September 2011More people would rather do without a flushing toilet than be deprived of access to Facebook, according to a survey.
And an internet connection is also rated above clean drinking water by most of us.
One Poll on behalf of the London Science Museum asked 3,000 UK adults to name the one thing they could not live without. Top of the list was sunshine, with an Internet connection coming in a close second. Third on the list was clean drinking water followed by a fridge at number four. And the Facebook social networking site took the fifth spot ahead of flushing toilets at number nine.
The survey was carried out to publicise the London Science Museum's new Water Wars: Fight the Food Crisis exhibition concerning the problem of water scarcity worldwide and its effects on food production. The exhibition aims to highlight those amenities that are taken for granted in the West.
The museum's exhibition manager Sarah Richardson said: "To say you can't live without material things over drinking water is crazy.
"It seems that having fresh drinking water is something many of us take for granted but is becoming scarcer in many parts of the world. If you see how little water others have to drink or grow food, you soon realise that water is fast becoming a luxury for millions."
