Tissue specialist Lucart, based in Italy, has strengthened its position on the Iberian peninsula with the acquisition of the Spanish group CEL Technologies & System which went into administration last summer. It says it will invest more than €20 million in the business over the next five years.

As part of the operation Lucart has bought threeproduction facilities in the Basque Country near the city of Bilbao, designed for the production and conversion of tissue paper and the production of personal care soaps and detergents in the away-from-home sector.

There is also a de-inking plant that will allow Lucart to use its know-how in recycled ecological tissue paper.

In order to gradually resume production Lucart has created 146 jobs in the three production plants.

"This acquisition will allow us to continue to strengthen our presence in the tissue paper market, in line with the company's strategic growth plan in European markets," commented Massimo Pasquini, Lucart's ceo.
