German company sends toilet rolls to Buckingham Palace
12th of April 2019A German company has sent 1,400 luxury toilet rolls to Buckingham Palace in London in case the country runs out in the event of a no-deal Brexit. Hakle sent 90 packs containing 16 rolls each, addressed to Her Majesty, but they were rejected at the gates as a possible security risk.
Hakle didn't want the 1,400 rolls to go to waste so a staff member suggested it go to Woodcote High School, where her brother is deputy head.
Peter Mack explained: "It's been a slightly confusing series of events, but in the end we've ended up with a helpful stock of high quality toilet tissue."
In 2018 former minister for Europe Denis McShane warned of a possible crisis if the UK leaves without a deal. The UK is Europe's largest importer of toilet paper, and it's said that daily supply levels are only ever enough to last a single day.
Hakle sent the delivery as part of a stunt covered widely in German newspapers.
