French apprentices make UK study visit

A group of apprentices currently studying health and environment studies at the Centre de Formation des Apprentis (CFA) in Tours, France visited the UK recently on a study tour. The purpose of the tour was for the 23 students to learn more about various aspects of the cleaning sector, deepen their knowledge about sustainable development and develop a better understanding of the host country.

Birmingham's Metropolitan College was one of the stops on their tour, where Alaco Millard, head of the vocational and environmental sciences department   offered the students an insight into the UK's professional cleaning sector and answered their questions. An afternoon of practical work had also been arranged, when students had the opportunity take part in activities such as using single brush machines, and learn more about stain removal techniques.

The group also visited the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales to investigate renewable energies, and a centre for energy recovery in the North of England.

The CFA is run by the Institut National de l’Hygiène et du Nettoyage Industriel (French National institute of industrial health and cleaning) - INHNI - and the trip was organised by the Trans’Europe training centre for the central region of France.
