Every fifth cleaner in Finland has foreign background

Statistics Finland figures released recently reveal the occupations of those with foreign backgrounds working in Finland in 2013. Almost 10,000 were employed as cleaners.

Statistics Finland's 2013 comparison of the types of jobs held by foreigners and Finns illustrates the types of employment held by those born outside Finland.

In 2013, people with a foreign background living in Finland were more likely to work in the cleaning services industry than Finns, who were more likely to work in healthcare services or institutions.

In the cleaning sector there were 9,700 workers with foreign backgrounds, which represents approximately 23 per cent of the industry's total workforce. There were about 115,000 foreign-born workers employed in other sectors in Finland.
