EFCI online conference week takes place next week

There's still time to register for the European Cleaning and Facility Services Industry (EFCI) online conference week taking place next week, from October 11-15.

Taking place between 11.00 and 12.30 CET every day from Monday to Friday, the programme aims to provide the sector with an overview of the main European policies and trends that will affect it, while presenting the best examples of how the sector creates meaningful jobs, integrates in the circular economy and incorporates digitalisation in day-to-day business.

Speakers will also include experts from EFCI's members, who will analyse the impact of Covid-19 on the sector, present their policy vision on essential topics like public procurement and on their best practices regarding sustainability or innovation.

Here's how the programme will look:

• On Monday October 11 Nicholas Schmit, European commissioner for jobs and social rights, will open the event. His inauguration address will be followed by the presentation of EFCI's 2021 Report, which builds on the national EFCI surveys. This years' edition is completed with a study on the effects of Covid-19.

• The session of Tuesday October 12 will invite policy makers and experts to discuss how the sector can contribute and benefit from Europe's recovery plans. The panel will be introduced by Laurentiu Plosceanu, president of the employment, social affairs and citizenship section of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), and will include the presentation of the EU's recovery strategy with a focus on the services sector by Maria Teresa Fabregas, director of the task force Recover of the European Commission.

• Thursday October 14 will be devoted to sustainability and the green transition of the sector. Ricardo Rio, rapporteur on SDGs of the European Committee of the Regions and Mayor of Braga, Portugal, will set the framework for a panel that will present the Commission's latest initiatives concerning circular economy plan and best practices on how the sector's companies are redesigning their businesses to go circular and suppliers are supporting this transition.

• Friday October 15 will close the week with a session on innovation and digitalisation, seeking to improve the industry's readiness for new technologies. Among others, EUnited will present the Facility Data Standard, an open communication standard for manufacturers of digital tools for facilities management that the organisation has recently developed, and digital leaders from Acciona and Paul Schulte will present how their companies are leading this transformation.

Finally, the seminar will host the presentation of the first results of the project 'SK-Clean: new skills and training for the cleaning industry' which the EFCI is implementing with the financial support of the European Commission.

Wednesday October 13 is reserved for EFCI member associations and their member companies - executives will analyse the evolution of the sector and the level of preparedness for the challenges ahead, and specially for the green and digital transitions.
