Coronavirus cruise ship to undergo deep clean before next voyage

A final group of 130 crew members has left the quarantined Diamond Princess, the cruise ship at the centre of a 14-day coronavirus quarantine in Japan. Now the ship is ready for a full deep cleaning process before spending time in a dry dock and setting sail again on April 29.

The Diamond Princess was carrying 3,711 passengers - 705 of them contracted coronavirus. It docked at Yokohama port near Tokyo from for two weeks in February. Now Princess Cruises is working with the Japanese Ministry of Health on the specific details of how the ship must be sanitised by a specialist cleaning company.

It's not unusual for a cruise ship struck with an illness outbreak to return to service after a period.
