A recent international study done by an international consultancy calls into question many of the assumptions made about gender differences in job satisfaction and career development.
There was little statistical difference in the Accenture research between women (47 per cent) and men (44 per cent) when it came to dissatisfaction with current pay levels or in holding the belief that they had no opportunities for career advancement in their workplace (33 per cent versus 34 per cent).
Yet when asked about factors that help women advance in their organisations, 68 per cent of women and 55 per cent of men cited hard work and long hours and only 39 per cent of women and 34 per cent of men cited flexible working arrangements.
