Italian tissue manufacturer Sofidel has finalised the acquisition of the tissue division of Clearwater Paper Corporation. This makes it the fourth largest tissue paper manufacturer in North America.

Thanks to the acquisition of four production plants - in North Carolina, Idaho, Nevada and Illinois - and the integration of 1,700 employees, Sofidel is increasing its production capacity by 25 per cent and optimising its geographic coverage.

"This transaction makes Sofidel the fourth largest tissue paper manufacturer in North America and strengthens its leadership in the private label sector," said Luigi Lazzareschi, Sofidel CEO. "A step that brings the goal of having equivalent revenues on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean much closer. A crucial acquisition for the future of Sofidel as a whole."
