Industry celebrates ‘Thank your cleaner day’

Yesterday, October 17, was "Thank your cleaner day" when people around the world were encouraged to show their appreciation to cleaning staff.

The event was established in New Zealand in October 2015 by Lillian Small, ceo of the nation's Building Services Contractors Association. It is now sponsored by machine manufacturer Kärcher and recognised in 15 countries including the UK, Spain, Canada, the US and Australia.

The aim of the initiative is to "change the conversation" and raise the profile of cleaning according to Small. "Thank Your Cleaner Day is one of those campaigns that is so simple but when you really dive into the depths of it, is quite powerful," she said.

"A campaign such as this drives standards, enhances client engagement, brings value back into the industry and has a positive impact on the community."

Thank Your Cleaner Day aims to champion universal appreciation for cleaners and the work they do. Organisers are asking participating companies to drive the campaign, communicating information to customers and encouraging them to implement activity at local level. Kärcher will then support these activities via its social media channels.

"As a leading global cleaning equipment and technology company, we recognise the opportunity to further enhance the awareness and recognition of those efforts in this industry," says ceo of Kärcher North America Javier Gonzalez.
