‘Germ-killing wallpaper' goes on the market

Belgian wallpaper brand Grandeco has launched what it claims to be the world's first germ-killing wallpaper.

The company says its product will attract, trap and eradicate 99.9 per cent of viruses, bacteria, mould and fungi that come in contact with the walls.

The wallpaper has been treated with a hospital-grade, heavy-duty disinfectant called Nobacoat. It is aimed at families with children and is said to be particularly suitable for use in high-traffic areas such as hallways, kitchens and children's play rooms.

"Walls harbour germs and the average household contains more than 9,000 different viruses, bacteria and fungi," said CEO of Grandeco WallFashion Group Patrick Molemans. "In a post-Covid world the need for healthy living spaces has become more important than ever."

He claims that unlike other products on the market, Pure and Protect Noacoat Atmosphere wallpaper operates mechanically instead of chemically. "This means it will attract and pierce 99.9 per cent of viruses, bacteria, fungi and even mould making them harmless without the use of any harsh chemicals," he said.

The company claims the product's germ-killing properties will remain effective for up to 12 years and will withstand regular cleaning, wiping and scrubbing. Pure and Protect Noacoat Atmosphere wallpaper is available in a range of styles and colours and costs around £40 per roll.
