Biggest ever ISSA/INTERCLEAN in Amsterdam

The ISSA/INTERCLEAN exhibition in Amsterdam takes place from May 8-11. This is Europe’s largest showcase for the professional cleaning sector, and as the official European magazine for the show ECJ will feature an extensive preview in the April/May edition.

According to the organisers, 2012 will be the biggest ISSA/INTERCLEAN exhibition ever, occupying eight halls.

ISSA/INTERCLEAN is acknowledged as being the most important event for the professional cleaning sector in Europe. Held every two years, this year it takes place from May 8-11 at the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. There, cleaning professionals can discover the latest product innovations and network with colleagues from all over the world, under one roof.

Innovation award

One of the biggest highlights of the exhibition is always the presentation of the Amsterdam Innovation Award, and this year's winner will be announced during a special ceremony on the opening day. Over 70 entries have been received this year and the list of finalists has now been announced.

Speaking at the ceremony will be Michael Braungart, originator of the Cradle to Cradle concept which is now gaining worldwide momentum. Read ECJ's exclusive interview with him in the April/May edition.

Washroom and High Pressure

The exhibition areas dedicated to Washroom and High Pressure have been expanded following their successful introduction in 2010. High Pressure has its own area in hall 5, together with an outside demonstration area. Washroom, meanwhile, has grown to 8,000 square metres and will occupy halls 10 to 11.

Miniskills

New this year is the Miniskills competition, in which cleaning teams from various countries take part. Teams from Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands and UK will compete in a number of set cleaning tasks. They will be expected to strip and remove polish from linoleum; perform crystallisation; cleanroom cleaning; and clean a hospital room using steam.

Demo on the Job

Also brand new for this year's show is Demo on the Job, whereby exhibitors have been invited to make their latest product launches available to the RAI's contract cleaning company - GCA. Its cleaners will use the equipment selected throughout the event to clean all halls, the washrooms and outside demonstration areas.

Seminars

As in previous years, Amsterdam RAI and ISSA have compiled a comprehensive seminar programme.

Tuesday May 8 - Doing Business in a Culturally Diverse Marketplace. Renowned speaker Phillip Khan Panni will present his study on how to get the best from doing business with clients around the globe from Japan and the USA to Russia and South Africa. It will be followed by an international round table discussion.

Wednesday May 9 - Cleaning in the 21st Century. This Dutch-language session will have simultaneous translation available. Prof Didier Pettit of the World Health Organisation (WHO) will focus on the impact cleaning can have on the risk and spread of infection.

Thursday May 10 - Facility Management and the Cleaning Industry. This seminar will feature three presentations: Sustainability in Cleaning, the Sceptical Approach; New Ways of Working; and The Challenges of the Ageing Population.

Friday May 11 - Certification and Training in the Cleaning Industry - a Roadmap. Training professionals look at training and certification from entry level through to supervisory staff and company accreditation.

For Dutch speaking visitors, Amsterdam RAI is also organising a Schoonmaakmarkt where Benelux distributors and cleaning companies can invite their customers and have the opportunity to network with Dutch colleagues.
