New minimum wage for South African contract cleaning sector
3rd of February 2015The minimum wage for South Africa's contract cleaning sector rose last month, to R16.98 (1.3 euros) an hour in metropolitan and local council areas. This agreement will be binding until November 30.
Metropolitan areas covered include the cities of Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Nelson Mandela Bay. The councils include Emfuleni, Merafong, Mogale City, Metsimaholo, Randfontein, Stellenbosch, and Westonaria.
Minimum wages in rural areas increased to R15.47 (almost 1.2 euros). In semi-urban areas rates will be determined by the KwaZulu-Natal Contract Cleaning Bargaining Council.
