Come and experience sustainable ISSA/INTERCLEAN!

2nd of May 2012 Article by Rob den Hertog

With just days to go until ISSA/INTERCLEAN opens in Amsterdam, project manager Rob den Hertog invites the cleaning industry to Amsterdam RAI next week. RAI aims to be one of the most sustainable exhibition venues in Europe.

ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam is the global meeting place for all cleaning professionals. Amsterdam RAI the leading organiser of this event is committed to a clean and healthy environment for all its stakeholders - every day striving to the highest level of cleanliness in and around the venue. Annually over two million visitors are welcomed.

The show was established in 1967 as Interclean, renamed in 1998 to ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam, and showing all the latest innovations during what has become the world's largest professional cleaning show.

In many of the 71 new products that have entered the Amsterdam Innovation Award 2012, we see solutions to reduce waste and lower demand on resources such as water, energy and chemicals. This is also of great concern for Amsterdam RAI.

Amsterdam RAI aims to be a centre for exchange between people, brands, products, ideas and experiences, creating added values and strives to create sustainable value at the highest level in safe, healthy and environmentally friendly surroundings for all the building's employees, users and stakeholders.

To solidify our commitment to an advanced Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, we have established the goal to be the most sustainable convention centre in Europe by 2013.

We have implemented many initiatives and changes to reach this goal, for example the source of electricity for lighting, office system, kitchen systems, internal transport and climate systems come 100 per cent from biomass, wind power, and hydropower. And 80 per cent of the energy needed for our operation is reusable via geothermal sources.

We have reduced water consumption by installing automatic taps and reducing toilet flushings from eight to six litres.

Also a number of environmental inspectors have been appointed who ensure the waste agreements with regard to proper separation are complied with. And RAI will be installing a swill system that converts organic waste into biogas. We are only working with suppliers of sustainable products and for our cleaning we have chosen only biodegradable products.

Another part of this extensive CSR policy is supporting Amref Flying Doctors. An amount of 100,000 euros has been donated since 2005. Amref Flying Doctors is Africa's principal healthcare organisation and is committed to improving the health situation of vulnerable groups of people in that continent.

In recognition of these efforts, Amsterdam RAI was awarded with the Golden Green Key, the international certification for having an environmental policy that extends well beyond what is required by law in the field of sustainable office policies, gas, water and energy saving, catering and the separation of waste products.

In 2010 Amsterdam RAI again received the prestigious silver status from Earth Check (previously Green Globe). Silver status underlines a company's leading position in the European MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) sector in the field of sustainable business.

ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam 2012 will be held in one of the most sustainable venues in Europe and will display without any doubt the most complete overview of sustainable cleaning solutions.

Come, see and experience it yourself!
