SCA's hygiene business becomes Essity

The SCA Group, best known in the away-from-home sector for the Tork brand, has been split into two independent listed companies. These are the forest products company SCA, and the global health and hygiene company Essity.

Hygiene and health feature highly in Essity's vision and strategy going forward, it says. While SCA's hygiene business had been known historically for its hygiene products and brands - including Tork - the Essity name is set to be built on a foundation of both hygiene and health products.

Renee Remijnse, communications director for Essity Professional Hygiene explained the move would bring more focus to hygiene and health within the company "so our distributors and end-customers feel assured they are not only continuing to work with a trusted brand, but also with a dedicated company behind the brand.

"What our customers will see in the future is increased focus on hygiene topics and of course the new Essity name on pack and on communication materials as the endorser of the Tork brand."

Remijnse continued: "The away-from-home market, or professional hygiene market, is full of opportunities for Essity, and therefore also for Tork. We have a constant focus on innovations and solutions as we launch more value-adding products and services like Tork EasyCube. The internet of things will also create new and exciting options for the future in professional hygiene."

The Hygiene Matters global engagement platform will continue to be a key focus too. "Since 2008 we have conducted bi-annual research on several hygiene topics with 12.000 respondents all over the world in our Hygiene Matters reports, said Remijnse.

"Essity's vision ‘dedicated to improving well-being through leading hygiene and health solutions' means that we take our role serious in sharing our knowledge and engaging in global conversations about sanitation, hand hygiene, incontinence, menstruation and other hygiene issues. We have partnered with the UN foundation and WSSCC and many other organisations to improve hygiene worldwide."
