Norovirus outbreak at Winter Olympics 2018

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea have been struck by an outbreak of norovirus among security guards. As a result 1,200 have been withdrawn from their roles and replaced by military personnel. The games are due to start tomorrow.

The organisers made the decision after 41 people were affected by an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea on Sunday, most of whom were later diagnosed with the norovirus in hospital.

"All areas are being disinfected. [The organisers] will be extremely diligent to sanitise anything that came into contact with the affected persons," Olympic Games executive director Christophe Dubi told reporters. "Very stringent measures are in place when it comes to food and beverage."
