Mitie awarded gold for CO2 reduction

Facilities services group Mitie has been recognised for its success in reducing the carbon emissions of its fleet, by being awarded Gold Certification by Masternaut. Across its whole fleet in the UK it cut CO2 by 770 tonnes - the equivalent to planting almost 800 trees.

Among the initiatives it has introduced is the Driver Risk Management Framework, to improve driver behaviour and offer training to encourage the most fuel-efficient driving, as well as the installation of speed limiters across its commercial vehicles.

Over the year, Mitie has also moved to more fuel-efficient models in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, subsequently announcing a commitment to move 20 per cent of its car and small van fleet to 100 per cent electric models by 2020.

Independently verified by the Energy Savings Trust, Masternaut's Fleet CO2 Certification is calculated by analysing telematics data from each vehicle in the Mitie Fleet, to track fuel consumption and how much CO2 is emitted over the year, compared to the previous 12 months. In order to achieve gold status, a business must see at least five per cent reduction in emissions each year.
