Man arrested for being aggressive in charge of a mop

A 30-year-old man in the US state of Connecticut landed up in court after taking exception to the way in which a hotel cleaner was mopping a floor.

John Thornton was arrested after he took the mop away from a member of the hotel's cleaning team and began "aggressively mopping" the floor himself.

Thornton apparently grabbed the cleaner's mop and took over the task because he felt she was doing a poor job of cleaning the floor. Once in control of the mop, Thornton is said to have became aggressive and he allegedly mopped over the unnamed cleaner's shoes several times.

When the 27-year-old hotel employee told him to stop, Thornton apparently turned his back on her and forced her into a corner.

Following the incident at a DoubleTree hotel in Bristol, Connecticut, the cleaner was said to be left shaken and crying. The police were then called and Thornton was initially charged with a breach of peace.

However, on the way to the police station the man allegedly began to shout insults and threats at the police, and this led to a further charge of second-degree threatening behaviour.
