Heathrow Airport puts Coronavirus hygiene measures in place

London's Heathrow Airport has put a number of hygiene measures in place to reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19 there.

Among the technologies it is trialling are UV cleaning robots that use UV rays to kill viruses and bacteria at night. UV technology is also being fitted to escalators to ensure continuous disinfection of the moving handrails, while self-cleaning anti-viral wraps are being fitted to security trays, lift buttons, trolley and door handles.

And 100 staff have been retrained to serve as hygiene technicians who disinfect the airport and answer passenger queries on the methods being used.

For the passengers there are Fly Safe Pit Stops, where they can pick up face masks, anti-viral wipes and hand sanitiser free of charge.
